Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa (2,650m/8,692ft)

  • Meet your guide and team at the Londorossi Gate.
  • Begin your trek through the lush rainforest, catching glimpses of Kilimanjaro through the foliage.
  • Camp at Mti Mkubwa, which means “Big Tree” in Swahili.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp (3,505m/11,500ft)

  • Traverse the rainforest and enter the heath zone with its unique plant life.
  • As you ascend, enjoy breathtaking views of Shira Plateau and Mount Meru.
  • Camp at Shira 1, with the expansive Shira Plateau as your backdrop.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp (3,810m/12,500ft)

  • Hike across the Shira Plateau, a high-altitude desert with stunning landscapes.
  • Marvel at the views of Kibo, the central volcanic peak of Kilimanjaro.
  • Camp at Shira 2, soaking in the surrounding beauty.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp (3,950m/12,960ft)

  • Trek towards the Lava Tower, reaching an elevation of 4,630m/15,190ft for acclimatization.
  • Descend to Barranco Camp, passing through the alpine desert.
  • Camp in the Barranco Valley, surrounded by towering cliffs.

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp (4,673m/15,331ft)

  • Tackle the Barranco Wall, a challenging yet exhilarating climb.
  • Traverse the Karanga Valley, enjoying breathtaking views of the southern icefields.
  • Reach Barafu Camp, your last stop before the summit bid.

Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,341ft) and Mweka Camp (3,100m/10,170ft)

  • Begin your summit attempt in the early hours, navigating the steep slopes of Kibo.
  • Reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, and savor the sunrise.
  • Descend to Mweka Camp, passing through Barafu for a well-deserved rest.
