6 Days Marangu Route – Kilimanjaro Trek

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

  • Arrive in Moshi, Tanzania, and transfer to your hotel.
  • Meet your guide for a pre-trek briefing and equipment check.
  • Rest and prepare for the trek ahead.

Day 2: Mandara Hut (2,700m/8,858ft)

  • After breakfast, drive to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate.
  • Begin the trek through lush rainforest, reaching Mandara Hut in approximately 4-6 hours.
  • Rest, enjoy the surroundings, and acclimatize.

Day 3: Horombo Hut (3,720m/12,205ft)

  • Continue through the rainforest and into the heath and moorland zones.
  • Reach Horombo Hut, with stunning views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.
  • 5-7 hours of trekking.

Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut

  • Spend the day acclimatizing to the altitude.
  • Optional hike to Zebra Rocks or Mawenzi Hut for better acclimatization.
  • Rest and prepare for the next day.

Day 5: Kibo Hut (4,700m/15,420ft)

  • Trek through the Alpine Desert to reach Kibo Hut.
  • Marvel at the expansive views of the crater and glaciers.
  • Rest and prepare for the summit push.

Day 6: Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,341ft) – Horombo Hut

  • Start the summit trek around midnight to reach the crater rim at Gillman’s Point by sunrise.
  • Continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.
  • Descend to Horombo Hut for a well-deserved rest.

Day 7: Marangu Gate – Moshi

  • Descend to Marangu Gate, completing the trek.
  • Receive your summit certificates.
  • Transfer back to your hotel in Moshi for a celebration and well-deserved rest.
