7 Days Machame Route – Kilimanjaro Trek

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

  • Arrive in Moshi, Tanzania.
  • Transfer to your hotel.
  • Briefing with your trekking guide.

Day 2: Machame Gate to Machame Camp

  • Drive to Machame Gate (1,800m).
  • Start trekking through the rainforest.
  • Hike to Machame Camp (3,010m).
  • Overnight at Machame Camp.

Day 3: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

  • Hike to Shira Camp (3,845m).
  • Pass through the heather and moorland.
  • Gain elevation and enjoy panoramic views.
  • Overnight at Shira Camp.

Day 4: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp

  • Trek to Barranco Camp (3,960m).
  • Cross the Shira Plateau.
  • Descend to the Barranco Valley.
  • Overnight at Barranco Camp.

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

  • Hike to Karanga Camp (4,035m).
  • Tackle the Barranco Wall.
  • Traverse the alpine desert.
  • Overnight at Karanga Camp.

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

  • Trek to Barafu Camp (4,640m).
  • Ascend to the high desert.
  • Rest and prepare for the summit push.
  • Overnight at Barafu Camp.

Day 7: Summit Day – Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and descent to Mweka Camp

  • Start the summit ascent in the early hours.
  • Reach Uhuru Peak (5,895m) at sunrise.
  • Descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest.
  • Continue the descent to Mweka Camp (3,100m).
  • Overnight at Mweka Camp.

Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

  • Descend to Mweka Gate (1,640m).
  • Receive summit certificates.
  • Transfer back to Moshi.
  • Celebratory dinner and overnight at the hotel.
